The Secret Painter

Description

The uncle nobody knew was an artist. When Eric Tucker died, his family went to clear out his house — and found a treasure trove: hundreds of vivid, joyful paintings the self-taught artist had created in secret over decades, never shown to anyone. In The Secret Painter, his nephew Joe Tucker tells the extraordinary true story of how this hidden body of work came to light.

Part memoir, part detective story, this warm and moving book follows Joe’s quest to understand the quiet, unassuming uncle he thought he knew — and the private world of colour and imagination he had concealed all his life. It is a story about family, memory, and the art that blooms in the most unexpected places.

A Sunday Times bestseller and BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week, The Secret Painter celebrates an ordinary man with an extraordinary gift — a book to treasure for anyone who loves art, family stories, or the romance of a lost talent finally found.
