Description
Every empire starts with a single block. Building Blocks by Tom Dawson is the fascinating history of Buckeye CableSystem — a small Ohio cable company, owned by a single family, that reinvented itself again and again to survive the communications revolution.
Dawson traces Buckeye’s extraordinary journey from printer’s ink to cable to fiber: a family empire that began in traditional printing and had the vision to leap into cable television, then broadband, then fiber optics — each time betting the business on the future. Along the way: the technological leaps, the business challenges, and the strategies that kept a local company thriving while giants stumbled.
Written in a readable, fast-paced style, this is both a business history and a case study in adaptation: how do you transform a company without losing its soul? A must-read for readers of media, technology, and family business — and a reminder that the Rust Belt’s quiet success stories deserve telling too.
