A Mirror Garden

Description

An artist’s life, shimmering like the mirrors she made famous. Few artists have lived as many lives as Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian. In A Mirror Garden, written with Zara Houshmand, one of Iran’s most celebrated contemporary artists looks back on a journey shaped by exile, love, and an unshakeable devotion to beauty.

Moving between Iran and the wider world, Farmanfarmaian traces her path from a privileged Tehran childhood to artistic awakening abroad and a triumphant return home — where she transformed traditional Iranian mirror mosaic and geometric design into strikingly modern art. With warmth and candor she writes of family, friendship, creative struggle, and the cultural heritage infusing every facet of her light-filled work.

Part memoir, part love story, and part portrait of Iran’s modern history, A Mirror Garden is essential for lovers of modern art and remarkable lives — luminous, deeply human, and a book to return to again and again.
